Last Saturday, Alan's oldest brother Mike married Alayna. We are very happy for them and we were glad to join them on their special day. It started out a good day. Since I was 36 1/2 weeks pregnant and my body has already started the labor process, we opted for leaving early in the morning instead of spending the night away from home. We left on time and made good time up there. The luncheon went well. Just as we were leaving to go to the temple for the wedding, we heard the most awful scream. Everyone ran towards the sound...even me (yes I was running...I haven't ran in months) when I heard Sadie's voice saying, "My finger, its stuck, I can't get it out." Sadie's finger was stuck in the hinge side of a heavy spring loaded door. I opened the door and pulled her finger out. Her finger nail was attached to the top of her finger, but pulled complelely out of the nail bed. (The nail wasn't broken, just pulled out.) Her finger was flattened. There was a pretty good chunk off the top just hanging there. So instead of a wedding, Alan and I headed to the closest InstaCare to see what, if anything, they could possibly do for Sadie's finger and for the pain she was in. (She was pretty upset as you might imagine and she doesn't get that upset very often.) After a pretty long wait, the doctor finally came in and gave Sadie a nerve block so she couldn't feel her finger at all. They took a couple of x-rays which showed her bones to be intact, and then the doctor removed the finger nail from the tip of her finger and stitched the top of her finger back on. She had 8 stitches on her finger. They went almost all the way around. Luckily, there was enough flesh on the bottom of her finger to keep good circulations to the part that was separated. It was awful. After, we went back to the church for the reception, which also went well. The nerve block lasted longer than the doctor thought it would so Sadie was pain free all evening. We have been keeping the Motrin in her since, but she is doing well. We had the stitches removed this morning and the doctor said it looks good and is healing nicely. It is so awful to see your kids in so much pain and to fear that they will be maimed for life. We don't know for sure if her finger nail will grow back or not. We hope it does and the doctors think it will, but anytime it is completely removed like that, there is a chance that it won't. Here are a couple of pictures of her finger with stitches and then a few more from the wedding.
Mike and Alayna cutting the cake. We welcome you to the family Alayna! We are so glad Mike found you and we look forward to getting to know you better.
This isn't a very good picture of any of us, but it is probably the last family photo we will have before the baby gets here. (2 1/2 weeks until his due date....I'm so excited)
The kids being their goony selves. I tried to get them to give me a normal smile...
The cousins played Crazy 8's to keep entertained. I'm so glad they play well together.
This picture has nothing to do with the wedding or Sadie's finger. I wanted to wait until the whole room was put together before I posted it, but who knows how long that will be. Alan won't let me take the bunk beds apart (so Sawyer only has one bed instead of two) and set up the crib until we need to and Baby will be in a bassinet in my room for a few months so it could be awhile. The room is too small to have bunk beds and a crib in it. I painted Sawyer and the baby's room a couple of months ago. I really love how it turned out. The stripes were a pain and although I really do love them, I am not sure I would ever paint stripes again and I am sure I won't ever paint them on wood paneling again...the paint peels with the tape...it was a mess.
